SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey is keen to put a dent in Glasgow’s hopes of going top of the SGB Championship today (Sunday).
The sides meet at the Eddie Wright Raceway with the Scorpions having pulled off a 47-43 win over the Tigers the last time they met in Lincolnshire.
Both teams name full-strength line-ups with the visitors able to overhaul leaders Ipswich if they take maximum points from the meeting.
Godfrey said: “Our previous win over Glasgow was definitely one of our best performances of the season, and we’d love to be able to defeat them again, because they are a quality side.
“Our form has been up-and-down in recent weeks, but the one big plus is how well we rode in the last meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, when we defeated Newcastle 54-39.
“That was an excellent performance, and we need to bring that form into Sunday’s meeting, rather than our recent away form.
“We may not be able to reach the top four, but we continue to strive to win every match we take part in, and that will be no different on Sunday.”
Meanwhile regular rivals Peterborough and Redcar clash at the East of England Arena.
The Panthers defeated the Bears at home last Sunday and also picked up two points from an away draw on Teesside three days ago.
The hosts are six points behind the visitors in the table but still have a match in hand as both seek to gain ground on fourth-placed Sheffield.
With Jack Holder on World Under-21 Final duty in Poland, Peterborough have called up Ipswich star Rory Schlein to guest.
Peterborough team boss Chris Johnson said: “It’s turned into quite a rivalry between ourselves and Redcar this season – and our intention is to end it with another three league points.
“It should be a cracking meeting as they will do everything they can to grab a win against us today.
“We have to be mindful of that, but I’m confident we have enough strength to get the job done at our place again.
“We can’t afford to drop any more points at home. We need victories to get ourselves closer to the play-off places and put pressure on the teams currently in the top four.”
