SPEEDWAY POSTPONEMENT - MONDAY JULY 24:

JOHN CEARNS CUP
Kent v Wimbledon - OFF

(SPEEDWAY 1)

GREAT Britain star Robert Lambert picked up nine points in the first round of the World Under-21 Championship at Poznan on Sunday.
Lambert’s scoring was all done in his first three rides as he raced to three wins – but his hopes were dented by a crash in his second outing with Polish rider Kacper Woryna.
Although Lambert was able to win the re-run with Woryna disqualified, he suffered damage to his hand and wrist as well as being unable to ride his first-choice bike after the incident.
He went out at the semi-final stage of a meeting won by another Pole, Maksym Drabik, who established supremacy in the three-round competition with a 21-point maximum.

GLASGOW took over the SGB Championship lead with a convincing 48-36 win at Scunthorpe on Sunday.
The Tigers already had the maximum four league points in the bag before rain prevented the final race of the evening from taking place.
Richie Worrall top-scored for the visitors with 10+1, with boss Stewart Dickson also highly encouraged by a combined total of paid-15 from reserves Tom Perry and Jack Smith – cancelling out a 13-point haul from home No.6 Tero Aarnio.
The home side had been hit earlier by a Heat 4 crash involving Lewis Kerr, who withdrew with a hand injury.
Dickson said: “Everything worked tonight - the second strings got five each away from home and you have heat-leaders scoring 26 points and that's without heat 15.
“I think people will notice the reserves because they've scored more than what their averages are, but I don't want to single anyone out because it was a real team performance.
“It was in front of one of the biggest travelling supports I've seen so far. We had a lot last year but we had twice as many there tonight and that's a pleasing aspect for me.”
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Glasgow are a very good side and they simply rode our track better than we did and totally deserved their victory.
“We got on with the meeting, because you can go onto the radar and it shows where the rain had reached and we knew it was coming. It said the rain would arrive at around 7pm and I think it arrived just a few minutes before then. By then, we’d managed to get everything in, bar the very final race, but Glasgow had already earned all four points.
“Lewis Kerr banged his hand in his fall in Heat 4. He couldn’t continue in the meeting, but we don’t think it’s broken.”
Meanwhile Peterborough raced to another home win over Redcar courtesy of a flying start at the East of England Arena.
The Panthers opened up with a 5-0 after both Bears riders failed to finish, and led 19-4 after four races to give the visitors a mountain to climb.
Skipper Ulrich Ostergaard top-scored with 12+1 for the Panthers, with guest Rory Schlein winning three of his four rides in their 53-39 success. Ben Barker piled up 16 points for the Bears, with four straight wins after a third place first time out.
Ostergaard said: “It was an excellent performance and an important result. To come through six meetings against a team as strong as Redcar and not be beaten is a great effort.
“We know we were probably a bit unlucky not to have got the win up there last Thursday, but we have to keep looking forward, not back.
“We can’t change the results that we have already had, but we can give everything until the end of the season and hope that gets us into the play-offs.
“It’s going to be tough as there are a lot of good teams in the league, but we’ll do all we can to get there and hope a few others slip up.”

WOLVERHAMPTON will be without Jacob Thorssell for their top of the table SGB Premiership clash at Belle Vue tonight (Monday).
The Swedish star is riding for Polish side Falubaz Zielona Gora in a re-arranged fixture which will cause him to miss the trip to Manchester.
Wolves will operate rider replacement to cover his absence – and co-promoter Chris Van Straaten has spoken of his frustration at the situation.
Said Van Straaten: “Zielona Gora re-arranged a fixture for this date long after our Belle Vue meeting was established and was on the international-accepted ISLB fixture list, but they have taken priority.
“We have spent 10 days asking for some co-operation from Poland and hoping for someone to see common sense, but it’s fallen on deaf ears.
“I have no criticism of Jacob, I have to make that clear, because he’s just been caught in the middle of this, but this sort of situation needs to be resolved for the sake of British Speedway.”
Kyle Howarth is ruled out with concussion for the visitors after his horror crash last week, with Ben Barker stepping in as a guest.
Belle Vue star Max Fricke said: “This is a pretty big meeting for us. We had a bit of a blip in our last one, which unfortunately has allowed other teams to reduce the advantage we’d built in the table.
“That can’t happen again on Monday and with BT Sport there, there will be that expectation for us not only to win, but to win by a respectable margin on our home track.
“We have beaten Wolverhampton once this year and taken a point from Monmore Green, and while they are a good side looking to go top we can match them man for man at every turn.
“There’s no doubt it’s going to be an epic meeting. Wolves are after points as badly as we are. They’re a good side with some very talented riders. I honestly believe it’ll go down to the wire.”
Meanwhile Leicester have called up Chris Harris to guest for injured No.1 Kim Nilsson when they host King’s Lynn at Beaumont Park.
The Lions are also without recent signing Pawel Przedpelski due to a broken leg with rider replacement in operation, whilst the Stars have the same facility for the suspended Chris Holder – whilst Lewis Kerr covers for Lewis Rose at reserve.
King’s Lynn promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It's been a tough couple of weeks for us as a club but we have to move on from that now and focus on the rest of the season.
“Points on the board are what we need and we know we're a very capable team when our minds are fully focussed.
“It's time for us all to pull together again and hopefully we can move ourselves closer to those play-off positions again.”

CRADLEY No.1 Danny Ayres knows his side cannot afford any slip-ups when they host Stoke at Monmore Green tonight (Monday).
The Heathens are fighting to earn a spot in the Travel Plus National League play-offs and know a win is vital to keep their top four bid on track.
Tyler Govier makes his first appearance since rejoining the club in place of Shelby Rutherford, and the Potters are at full-strength.
Ayres said: “We have struggled at times this season, and we know we’ve got to pull our fingers out over the rest of the season.
“It’s not out of our hands yet, but we know we can’t afford any more slip-ups. We’ve got to start getting results and picking up more points.
“Hopefully we can get a good win against Stoke on Monday to start the ball rolling properly because I feel like we just need to put a run of results together.”
Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: “We have named an unchanged side, the side has done well considering everything but unfortunately we have not got the best out of everyone in every match and hopefully we can do that on Monday night.
“Perhaps we can give Cradley something to think about. Cradley are a very good side and they will be no doubt looking to avenge their defeat at Loomer Road, and they are desperate for the points in order to make the play-offs at the end of the season, so they will be under a little pressure and hoping they do not slip up against us.”
Meanwhile Kent host a Wimbledon side in the annual John Cearns Cup clash at Central Park.
Former Kings duo Steve Boxall and David Mason line up for the Dons, whilst Ben Morley continues as the regular guest for the homes side’s injured No.1 Luke Bowen.
Kent reserve Anders Rowe is unavailable and is replaced by Kelsey Dugard, who recently lost his place with the Isle of Wight.

SCUNTHORPE have released long-serving Carl Wilkinson following Sunday’s home defeat against Glasgow.
Wilkinson has spent seven seasons with the Scorpions and is third on the club’s all-time points list, but failed to score in what turned out to be his final appearance.
Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I want to say a big thank you to Wilko, for all the years he’s spent riding for the Scorpions. He’s been an integral member of so many of our sides and produced many memorable moments at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
“That made it a difficult decision, because he has been such a big part of the Scunthorpe Scorpions for many years. He helped establish us in this division of racing.
“We knew we’d reached the right time to make this change. But Wilko’s been loyal to the club down the years, and I felt that he deserved one more opportunity to prove that we needed to keep him.
“But, sadly, he didn’t have a good evening against Glasgow and team manager Dave Peet had to break the news to Wilko following the meeting.”
