SPEEDWAY POSTPONEMENT MONDAY AUGUST 14

SGB PREMIERSHIP
Wolverhampton v King’s Lynn – OFF
Re-staging date: Monday September 4
(SPEEDWAY 1)

IPSWICH consolidated their position in the SGB Championship play-off places by winning at Scunthorpe on Sunday.
The Witches recovered from six points down with four heats remaining to take a 47-43 victory for their fourth win on the road this season.
Cameron Heeps and Connor Mountain got the visitors back into contention with a shock 5-1 in Heat 12, immediately backed up by another maximum from Rory Schlein and Danny King in the next to put the Witches ahead.
They led by four going into Heat 15, meaning the Scorpions needed a 5-1 to draw, but King controlled the race ahead of Josh Auty and Michael Palm Toft.
King, with 13+1, dropped his only point to Palm Toft in Heat 1, whilst Heeps added 13 from six rides. Auty (10+2) and Ryan Douglas (10) were in double figures for the Scorpions.
Ipswich boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “It was a tight meeting throughout and we stepped up a gear in the end.
“Everyone’s heads were down a little bit when we were behind and then Connor went out and rode superbly, and that gave everyone a bit of a boost and turned the meeting really.
“It’s not the first time we have had a really good finish, everyone got their heads back up after that. When your number seven goes out and rides brilliantly, it kicks everyone else into gear.”
Scorpions manager Dave Peet said: “It hurts that we had such a good away win, such as the one we had at Workington last week, and then don’t follow it up at home against Ipswich. But consistency has been our problem all season long.
“The scores were fluctuating, and we went behind at the wrong time. The refereeing decisions evened themselves out over the match – I don’t really want to blame that.
“It was one of those meetings that could have gone either way. You can’t take it away from Ipswich - they are a very strong team and fully deserved the victory, while Danny King was outstanding for them.”
Meanwhile Newcastle were emphatic 58-34 winners over a below-strength Peterborough side, who raced at Brough Park with only three of their regulars.
Ulrich Ostergaard missed out for the Panthers after crashing at Berwick on Saturday to join Bradley Wilson-Dean and Tom Bacon on the sidelines, with Jack Holder also absent.
The visitors contained the Diamonds for a time before the hosts ran out clear winners with Robert Lambert scoring a four-ride paid maximum (11+1) whilst Steve Worrall collected 14.
Worrall dropped his only point in Heat 15 to Chris Harris who produced a memorable ride to round the home man for his second win of the night.
Newcastle boss George English said: “Peterborough didn't do too badly considering they arrived with injuries and absences, so to hold us close for so long is credit to them but our strength in depth played out well for the win as we try to ascend the league table.”
Panthers manager Carl Johnson said: “We kept things tight for the first half of the meeting, but Newcastle's run of 5-1s knocked the stuffing out of us.
“I can't fault the lads. We dug in, worked hard and stuck together on a night when it was all about riding with pride.
“We've all worked very hard for the last three days and things haven't gone our way. I feel for the supporters who gave up their time and money to follow us in all three meetings.”

STOKE ended their away drought in the National League with a 50-40 win at Buxton on Sunday to pull clear of the scrap at the bottom.
The Potters were successful on the road in the league for the first time in over 13 months – which was also a victory at their local rivals.
The visitors roared into a ten-point lead after Heat 3 as home No.1 Matt Williamson fell in the first race, and although Williamson (11+1) and Max Clegg (14+1) were unbeaten thereafter, the Potters’ strength in depth secured a comfortable win.
Tony Atkin (10+1) and reserve Ryan Terry-Daley (10) led the way for the Potters, who suffered just three last places throughout the meeting.
Co-boss Adam Isherwood said: “It’s an absolutely brilliant four points for us - that’s what we set out to get at the start of the meeting and that is what we got.
“We had a quick team meeting at the beginning and talked about their top two riders and agreed that we needed to hit them when Matt and Max were not in those races, and the plan worked because they are two very good riders around here.
“Everyone performed from one to seven and I really could not single anyone out because all performed as we know they can.
“Here at Stoke, we need everyone to do a job. We do not have the superstars that some clubs have, but we do have a unit that if everyone does their job then we can surprise quite a few teams.”

WOLVERHAMPTON will look to take another step towards the SGB Premiership play-offs when they host King’s Lynn at Monmore Green tonight (Monday).
The hosts were edged out in their away trip to Somerset last week but can still return to second place, ahead of Belle Vue, if they defeat the Stars.
Wolves continue to operate rider-replacement for the injured Sam Masters, whilst the Stars’ revamped line-up is set to be at full strength.
The Norfolk side have dropped to seventh in the table but trail fourth-placed Poole by just five points, with three matches in hand.
Wolves captain Fredrik Lindgren said: “Things are going really well for us again at Wolverhampton this year. Obviously we have some injury problems at the moment with Sam out injured.
“But we’ll look to keep the points ticking over with another win on Monday - then we’ll hopefully have everyone back and ready for the play-offs.”
King’s Lynn’s Michael Palm Toft said: “Monmore Green is a track I get on with. I’m really looking forward to it.
“That should be really good. I have been a bit frustrated and trying to get my bike going but we have good camaraderie in the camp and back each other up. That helps when you have a tough time and I can’t wait to get back out there.”
Meanwhile Somerset have the chance to move into the play-off places for the first time when they host bottom club Leicester in tonight’s televised fixture.
The Rebels are just three points behind Poole and enjoyed a hefty 61-30 win the last time they hosted the Lions at the Oaktree Arena.
Admission prices have been reduced to £10 for adults with children going free, with promoter Debbie Hancock looking forward to the encounter.
She said: “This is a tremendous opportunity to not only promote the Rebels, but also the region as a whole.
“What we would love is for the Oaktree Arena to be packed out with fans, with the glorious location providing a fitting back-drop to what promises to be some red-hot on-track action.”
Leicester boss Jim Lynch said: “We knew before Saturday that we were facing a really tough week, starting with the Rye House match, and there will have been people saying we could lose all four matches.
“But after winning that one, you suddenly start thinking that anything is possible. Somerset are a good side now and it’s obviously going to be tough, but that result at the weekend is such a boost for everyone.”

LAKESIDE head to Kent tonight (Monday) in what could prove to be a crucial showdown as the National League play-off race hots up.
The Hammers are third in the table but the Kings gained ground with their win at Mildenhall on Saturday, and all of the top seven are now firmly in the play-off race bearing in mind matches in hand for the chasing teams.
Lakeside will be led at Central Park by two ex-Kings stars as Steve Boxall guests for the injured Zach Wajktnecht, and forms a spearhead with regular Kent guest Ben Morley along with Paul Hurry. Adam Roynon continues to stand in for Luke Bowen for the hosts.
Hammers star Alfie Bowtell said: “Kent are on a good run at the minute and with the wins they’ve been getting you’d imagine their confidence is quite high right now.
“But our team spirit at Lakeside is really good this season too and we go into every meeting thinking that we can win it.
“It’s getting tight in the league now so every point is going to be really important. Kent will be a tough meeting but we want to win or at least get a point.”
