Jaguar E type 3.8 Lightweight Roadster

Jaguar E type 3.8 Lightweight Roadster

Ok we have all seen the hot rod E types that run at the Goodwood Revival - and pondered how much dough and development goes into them and also have an idea that also a factory lightweight is a couple of million quid.

I was browsing racecar customer stock lists today and this beast on offer from DD Classics caught my eye. Basically it is a more or less an FIA spec lightweight - apart from the addition of a 5 speed box and some ventilated discs - and some minor other changes - which can be easily reversed - although if you were using it on the road and doing some trackdays/regularity tours - why would you?

I spoke to Danny who has driven this car and for about a 20th of the cost of a Factory lightweight you are getting the same if not better driving experience - and it has been beautifully put together - panel fit not to be confused with other track heros.

This car is a classic case of buying something where somebody else has spent more than the asking price on developing the car and then decides to move on to another project. The car needs nothing - just an owner who wants to enjoy driving it.

I have never driven a well sorted Jaguar E type 3.8 Lightweight Roadster - but having driven a couple of ropey 3.8 coupes and roadsters - I was left feeling the driving experience did not really match the hype associated with that beautiful shape. I am led to believe this triple weber road/racecar really is the dogs proverbials and I might be trotting over to DD Classics in the next week or so to helpfully arrange some video footage of this little honey....
