Young gun Harry King brought the curtain down on his maiden season in the Simpson Race Product Ginetta Junior Championship in fine style at Brands Hatch with a double rookie win in the final rounds of the year. The 15-year-old from Holyport went into the weekend on the back of a fine weekend at Siverstone where he secured a brace of podium finishes at the wheel of his Elite Motorsport run car.On the pace from the moment he hit the track at Brands Hatch, Harry qualified third on the grid and, in challenging wet conditions, was running in second place when a multi-car accident behind forced officials to throw out the red flag in the early stages of race one on Saturday evening.Fading light and the circuit curfew meant that the race was then delayed until Sunday morning, with Harry securing a fourth place finish as best of the rookie drivers – keeping him in the mix for the rookie title going into the final race of the year. That race, live on ITV4, would prove to be on the most action-packed of a dramatic weekend with Harry running in the top three throughout – leading two laps mid-way through after a stunning move for position on the Grand Prix loop.Ultimately taking the flag in second overall, Harry was once again the top rookie as he cemented third in the rookie championship and eighth overall; finishing just 20 points away from the top six.“It’s been another great weekend to end the year and two rookie wins is a fantastic way to bring the curtain down on my season,” he said. “As has been the case all season, the team has given me a car that has been absolutely faultless and we have shown our pace with two strong performances at the front of the field.“Overall, I’m really pleased with the way that my first season in the championship has gone, Although we had our low points, we’ve got stronger and stronger as the year has gone on and I think we have ended it as one of the teams to beat. There’s no doubt that I want to come back again next year and fight for the championship, which is certainly something we could achieve.“I have to thank the people who have supported me this season to make this possible, including DHB, Entire Race Engineering, and of course, all the guys in the Elite Motorsport team. I also have to give special mention to my driver coach Chris Hodgetts, as his experience has been a major part in this year being as good as it has been.”
