Five months since the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup began at Hockenheim in Germany, the spectacular DTM support championship reaches its conclusion back in the Rhine Valley next weekend, 15th/16th October, where Josh Caygill is aiming to wrap-up the season on a real high.
Going into the final two races of the campaign, rounds 13 and 14, the British driver is relishing the prospect of being back in action at Hockenheim where he secured a double top six finish in May, including a season-best result of fifth place.
While the 27-year-old’s second season in the category hasn’t been all plain sailing since that time, particularly in qualifying, the Netherton-based driver has delivered excellent race-craft and served up some impressive recovery drives.
Last time out at the Hungaroring in Budapest, his and the championship’s first ever visit to the famous Formula One venue, Josh produced a great performance to overcome a challenging qualifying session which was impacted by understeer problems with his 310bhp Audi.
Carving his way through the order in each contest, the Briton was able to secure a pair of ninth place finishes which ensured he departed Hungary still holding ninth in the championship and with the top eight well within his sights.
Clearly, with just two races remaining, Josh is hungrier than ever to make an overdue return to the podium and he will arrive in Germany next week determined to push for his first silverware of 2016 and mark the season finale with a glittering performance.
“I can’t believe we’re nearly at the end of the season already, it doesn’t seem five minutes since we were last at Hockenheim”, he said, “I’m really looking forward to being back there, qualifying and the races went well last time and we had top five pace throughout so I’m aiming to repeat that and, hopefully, push for more.
“It’s been a frustrating year at times for me, especially with qualifying not always going as well as we’d like, and I know we’ve lost quite a few championship points there. Overall, though, I’m really pleased with the progress I’ve made this season and the pace we’ve shown in the races – it’s been a big step forward compared to last year on that front.”
Following free practice next Friday, 14th October, the final qualifying session of the Audi Sport TT Cup season will take place on Saturday, 15th October, at 07.05 (UK time) with round 11 following at 14.10 (UK time). On Sunday, 16th October, the final race of the campaign will begin the day’s track action at 07.10 (UK time)
