Global RallycrossFrenetic finale: Volkswagen driver Speed wins the GRC drivers’ title
Scott Speed (USA) has been crowned the Global Rallycross (GRC) champion again. The Andretti Autosport driver bagged one win and one second place in his Volkswagen Beetle GRC at the final double-header event in Los Angeles (USA), giving him his second title following on from his triumph with Volkswagen last year. His team-mate Tanner Foust (USA) – who was leading the championship standings when he arrived in California – had to make do with second place on Saturday and fourth in Sunday’s frenetic, tactical finale. He finished the season as runner-up. Volkswagen clinched the 2016 season manufacturers’ championship: the car maker from Wolfsburg had an unassailable lead following the race in Seattle (USA).
VAG Trophy UKTaylor crowned champion, Witts claims a double win in Castle Combe
A cool head allowed Paul Taylor (GB) to sweep to victory in the championship, making him the new holder of the VAG Trophy. The Golf driver claimed the title ahead of his biggest championship rival, Darron Lewis (GB, Golf), at the season finale held at the Castle Combe Circuit (GB) by finishing fifth in the first race and taking second place in race two. Lewis came third in both of the races in Wiltshire. “It feels really good,” says Taylor. “I lost it by one point last year so to come back this year is great and that last race put a real mark on it.” Both races in Castle Combe were won by the Scirocco driver Tom Witts (GB).
Volkswagen Fun Cup UKJPR Uvio named new champion while Sherardize UK wins the final
The JPR Uvio team has clinched the championship in the Volkswagen Fun Cup UK. Eleventh place in the four-hour race in Oulton Park (GB) was enough for the pairing of Graham Roberts/Farquini Deott (GB/I) to win the title. The final race in the popular series was won by the Sherardize UK team. CCS Media crossed the line second after 99 laps with a gap of 0.103 seconds and DespatchBay.com finished third.
