Team Chaudron powered by Enemed woke up to clear blue skies and although there was a slight swell, the team was geared for their time-sensitive challenge. Saturday, 30th March saw five-time World Champion Aaron Ciantar (Malta), along with two-time World Champion throttleman Dominique Martini (Corsica, France), attempt to become the fastest team ever to circumnavigate Malta on a powerboat. At 07:45hrs Team Chaudron powered by Enemed departed from the Grand Hotel Excelsior Marina Valletta, with the start and finish line set up in front of the Diplomat Hotel on Tower Road Sliema. Team Chaudron drove counter-clockwise around the Malta 47-mile coast, on their mono-hull Chaudron 41’ closed canopy powerboat to take on the Chaudron Enemed V1 Powerboat Malta Circumnavigating World Record Breaking Attempt.

During this first attempt for the day, it was estimated that Team Chaudron would have shaved off anything between 8 to 10 minutes off the present record (Mario Invernizzi - Team Kerakoll: 34 minutes and 2.84 seconds), however the Team did not make it to the finish line due to an engine failure in the 22nd minute.

Although utterly disappointed, with great determination and commitment, and a race against time, the Team returned back to their workshop where together they worked against the clock to fix the fault and try for a second attempt. Despite the difficulties and delays in achieving success, Team Chaudron was determined to make it happen.

With the full support of all involved parties and Team Chaudron’s official sponsor, Enemed, a second attempt was set to start at 16:15hrs. The afternoon was not as pleasant, as winds picked up and the swell made it even more challenging than the morning’s attempt. This time, more than ever, Team Chadron hoped to add this speed record for circumnavigating around Malta to their long list of accomplishments. But unfortunately, this still remains a dream as the second attempt also failed due to mechanical failure. Team Chaudron returned back to Valletta and gave their final statement for the day - “We are thankful for all the help and support we received today, not only from our families, helpers, partners and sponsors but also from the general public who truly believe in us and rooted for this challenge to be a success. This is not the end and we will persevere until this elusive title becomes ours.”
