Following the postponement or cancellation of all but two of the nine rounds of the 2020 FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship (EHSRC) due to the global Covid19 pandemic, the FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved a revised five round 2020 championship beginning in Austria in September and concluding in Spain at the end of November.
The 2020 FIA EHSRC will get underway with the Rallye Weiz, the Austrian round hosting its second full FIA historic event on 3rd/5th September following its successful debut in 2019.
Two weeks later the championship will move to the beautiful island of Elba in Italy for the 32nd Rally Elba Storico. The Italian round retains its original dates of 17th to 19th September.
On the 15th-17th October the FIA EHSRC will be hosted by the Rallye International du Valais, the first appearance of Switzerland’s premier historic rally on the FIA historic rally calendar for many years.
The final two events on the calendar are rescheduled from earlier in the year. The 29th Historic Vltava Rallye was originally scheduled in April but will now be the penultimate event on the 5th/7th November and the season finale will take place in Spain with Rally Asturias Histórico moving from its original May date to the 26th/28thNovember.
Vincent Caro, FIA Head of Historic Motor Sport, said: ““The whole world has been affected by the Covid19 pandemic and we have all faced some difficult decisions. We are therefore very pleased to be able to announce the revised 2020 calendar, which will see some of the most iconic cars from historic rallying once again competing on some of the best and most scenery special stages in Europe.
“I would like to thank everyone, both in the national federations, the event organisation and at the FIA, who have worked diligently to produce this five round calendar. With the return of the FIA EHSRC in September we can be sure that the 2020 season will finish on a high note.”
