Carlin's Kaylen Frederick dominated proceedings at Oulton Park on Sunday, as the American claimed two impressive victories at the Cheshire circuit to make amends for yesterday's lost triumph in race one.
Frederick crushed the opposition in this morning's race three, taking victory by 8.650 seconds, the third largest BRDC British F3 win on record. He then resisted pressure from Hitech GP's Kush Maini in race four to storm into the early championship lead at the end of a weekend that saw BRDC British F3 run four races for the first time during a main season event.
Race Three
Double R Racing's Louis Foster started on pole position, but Frederick made a blistering start to launch into an immediate lead from second on the grid, with teammate Nazim Azman following him through into second place, with Foster slipping down to fourth behind Douglas Motorsport's Ulysse De Pauw.
Frederick then proceeded to pull away rapidly at the front, at times almost a second quicker than the opposition, while Azman himself built a gap to De Pauw, though the Belgian driver whittled that down in the final few laps. Frederick's eventual win margin has only been bettered in BRDC British F3 by Lando Norris and Toby Sowery, both in 2016. Post-race, De Pauw was disqualified for a yellow flag infringement, handing third place to Foster.
Race Four
Frederick started the final race of the weekend from pole position, and duly converted that into another win, leading every lap once more. This time though he had Maini for company, and the Indian driver kept him much more honest, especially in the opening laps. Despite setting a fastest race lap quicker than anything seen in qualifying or the rest of the weekend, Frederick's margin of victory was a comparatively small 2.2 seconds.
Maini took the second podium result of the weekend for series debutants Hitech GP, with Lanan Racing's Piers Prior also taking his second top-three result after yesterday's win in race two. Prior made a quick start from fifth on the grid and then moved into the top-three after an incident for teammate Bart Horsten.
In the early championship standings, Frederick holds an early advantage of eight points over race one winner Kiern Jewiss, with Azman a further point back in third, heading to the next rounds at Donington Park in two weeks' time (15-16 August).
Double race winner Frederick said: "Another really great race. Not as dominant as the one earlier today, but a win is a win and a decent margin behind me so I'm really happy. Again the team gave me a great car and we showed some really strong pace.
"In the first couple of laps I was keeping it fairly chilled because I knew a fastest lap in this race didn't really mean anything whereas in the last race it meant pole in this race. So I was able to have a bit more of a breather but I put in some push laps towards the end to get fastest lap.
"For sure the race one penalty hurt me quite a bit, but all we can do is finish with strong consistent results from now on and see where we end up."
