Javier Sagrera Pont has been announced as Elite Motorsport's first driver in the 2021 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, ahead of the team's maiden participation in the UK's leading single-seater series this season.
The Spaniard will race for Elite in just his second year of car racing, following a partial season in last year's Spanish F4 Championship, achieving multiple top-10 finishes in the first half of the campaign.
The 17-year-old began racing in karts in 2015, progressing through the Cadet ranks of the Catalan and Spanish championships, and picking up multiple Rotax race wins. Sagrera Pont finished second in the 2017 Spanish Championship and has raced in the finals of the Winter Cup, the WSK, European Championship and the World Championship.
The young Spaniard is affiliated with Seven Grand Prix, formed in the '80s by Mexican Picho Toledano as a driver development programme.
Sagrera Pont said: "My hopes and aims are to mature and develop more as a driver due to the intense and difficult tracks that I will face in England. Of course I also want to be a strong candidate, fighting for the championship. Elite is an experienced and hard-working team that I believe can give everything I need to put in good performances. I’m very grateful to Picho [Diaz-Toledano] at Seven GP for bringing this new and exciting association together.”
Eddie Ives, Team Owner and Manager, said: “I'm over the moon to have secured Javier in one of our BF3 cars. We had a very promising three-day test with Javier at Valencia in December. He impressed the whole team with his attitude and pace. It’s a big challenge for him coming over to the UK but I'm confident we will surprise a few people.”
The 2021 BRDC British F3 Championship is due to start in May at Brands Hatch.
