Rare Frazer Nash-BMW 327/80 Cabriolet at Silverstone Auctions opener

Fasten Your Seat Belts for Silverstone Auctions’ Spectacular Season Opener at The RAF Museum London on 5th & 6th March 2022

Silverstone Auctions is in full throttle as it counts down to a very exciting 2022 Season Opener in the setting of a spectacular new venue, The RAF Museum, Hendon on the outskirts of London. The first sale of 2022 takes place on 5th and 6th March, and features a superb line-up of classic, competition and collectors’ cars as well as automobilia to appeal to any motoring enthusiast.

The RAF Museum London, the famous home to an impressive collection of aircraft, will create a stunning ambience for Silverstone Auctions’ first live event of the year, in this specialist sale of iconic cars. To add to the atmosphere, the auction will be hosted amongst an array of RAF exhibits creating a fusion of historic best-of-breed ‘wings and wheels’.

Of the many notable cars listed in the sale, is one very special and extremely rare entry. The exquisite 1939 Frazer Nash-BMW 327/80 Cabriolet is steeped in history and is one of only 19 that were imported to the UK last century. It follows an agreement made in 1934 between BMW and Middlesex-based Frazer Nash as a precursor to selling cars under their own brand name of ‘Frazer Nash BMW’, an arrangement that continued until the outbreak of World War II in 1939.

A dream of a car for any collector, only 12 are believed to now be in existence including the one that will appear at the auction. This magnificent example of Anglo-German engineering and craftmanship, was fully restored around 2005 by marque specialists, TT Workshop, and has gone on to form a captivating part of BMW UK’s Historic Fleet in various displays since 2015.

This very special Frazer-Nash BMW 327, finished in Midnight Blue Over Cream with its folding soft-top, is the epitome of elegance from a bygone era, and an object of admiration for many. Its stunning exterior is a preview to the luxurious navy-blue leather interior and Art-Deco faced instrumentation. It is fitted with a BMW 328 1971 cc straight-six engine generating 80 bhp (327/80) and as part of its recommission by BMW, will be offered running and driving with 32,586 miles on the odometer.

While the incredibly rare Frazer Nash is poised to take the spotlight at Silverstone Auctions’ Season Opener, there are many other sought-after highlights making an appearance at this opening sale.

Porsche enthusiasts will be drawn to a striking 1991 Porsche 911 (964) 3.3 litre Turbo, an original C16 UK specification, finished in an extremely desirable and rare Tahoe Blue. Other classic sports cars include the righthand drive 1992 Ferrari 348 TB originally supplied by Nigel Mansell Sports Cars. There is also a classic icon, the 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 'Flat Floor' Roadster, which has been restored to the finest detail and is an outstanding example of its type.

For those drawn to the excitement of competition cars, the 1988 Leyton House March F1 (March-Judd 881) celebrates the great F1 designer Adrian Newey in iconic ‘Leyton House’ Turquoise. Far from a replica, or just a show car, this is an amalgamation of factory March-Judd 881 parts and is widely considered to be one of the most attractive F1 cars ever designed. Also featuring in the auction, is a very precise replication which plays homage to Hannu Mikkola’s 1985 Olympus Rally-winning ‘Group B’ Audi Quattro SWB and fresh to market, a 1988 Rover Metro 6R4 built to International specification. While not campaigned in recent years, the meticulously maintained Metro 6R4C rally sensation has an incredibly successful back story with numerous podium finishes with Dave Jacobs between 2000 and 2004.

These magnificent examples provide a taste of the many highlights listed in the Silverstone Auctions’ Season Opener at The RAF Museum London. There are many more, as the list of sales entries continues to evolve, all of which can be previewed in more detail on the Silverstone Auctions website. With live events very much back on the agenda for 2022, there is the opportunity for potential bidders, by arrangement, to physically view the cars pre-sale.

For those with a classic, sporting or iconic vehicle to sell, there is still limited time for new inclusions. The specialist team at Silverstone Auctions welcomes enquiries and can provide further assistance.

Silverstone Auctions is extending a warm invitation to interested parties and encourages them to experience this spectacular opening sale in person, as it brings all the excitement of an intimate classic car event to London, made even more special at such an atmospheric venue that celebrates the history of The Royal Air Force.

Bidding is also available by phone, live online or via commission. Pre-registration for bidding can be completed online via the Silverstone Auctions website
