Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard continues to champion the future of mobility and technology, under new FOS TECH brand strategy.
Indy Autonomous Challenge will return to Goodwood as part of the event’s continued ambitions to diversify content.
Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place Thursday 11 - Sunday 14 July.
Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that it will return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard this summer.
At the 2024 event, the IAC will extend its presence from the Future Lab presented by Randox, to the iconic Goodwood Hill to undertake a special hillclimb challenge that will be revealed in the coming months. As a competition designed to advance technology that accelerates the commercialization of fully autonomous vehicles and the deployment of advanced driver- assistance systems (ADAS), as well as a platform for students to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and inspire the next generation of innovators, IAC is able to push boundaries and attempt the previously unattempted, which aligns naturally with the Festival of Speed’s evolving FOS TECH strategy.
FOS TECH brings together all the technology and future mobility content at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, encompassing the forward-looking aspects of the event, including the latest automotive machinery and alternative fuels, through to the world’s most intriguing and groundbreaking pioneers in Future Lab, and extensive STEM programme for 11-16 year olds.
FOS TECH aims to serve visitors, press, brands and digital viewers with immersive and accessible content, reinforcing the Festival of Speed as the platform to explore and celebrate a vision for tomorrow’s world.
Matt Hearn, Goodwood’s Head of Event Content and FOS TECH lead, said: “We are thrilled that the Indy Autonomous Challenge is returning to the Festival of Speed this year and help bolster our FOS TECH ambitions. We really hope FOS TECH encourages more organisations to demonstrate both static and dynamic elements at the Festival of Speed, creating memorable experiences for our fans.”
The Indy Autonomous Challenge first appeared at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed in Future Lab, an exhibit which brings together inspiring innovators who are at the very forefront of creating ‘Technology for a Better World’. The IAC exhibited as part of the ‘Mobility on a Mission’ showcase, with their car on display to promote the capability of autonomous racecars to event goers.
At the same time, members of three IAC university teams conducted numerous ground scans and digitally mapped the Goodwood hillclimb in preparation for this year’s exciting challenge.
Speaking at the CES press conference in Las Vegas, Paul Mitchell, IAC President, said: “We can’t wait to head back to Goodwood in July with the world’s fastest and most advanced autonomous racecar. Goodwood provides a historic venue to showcase the future of high- speed autonomous mobility and connect a global audience to the talented university teams developing cutting edge AI driver software. We’re excited to be a part of the Festival of Speed’s growing FOS TECH content and let people get up close to the latest and greatest in innovation and technology.”
