FOLLOWING RESCHEDULING OF BRANDS HATCH EVENT
Cadwell Park to host 2021 Legends curtain-raiser in April
Planned Brands Hatch season-opener moved to new June date
Calendar change results in Knockhill dropping off schedule
This year’s Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres season will begin a fortnight later than planned, over the weekend 24th/25th April, following a decision by the British Automobile Racing Club and MotorSport Vision to reschedule the original curtain-raising event at Brands Hatch.
After yesterday’s confirmation the Brands Hatch meeting alongside the British Truck Racing Championship has been moved from April to the weekend of 5th/6th June, in order to enable fans to be permitted at the Kent track when the current COVID-19 lockdown restrictions have been lifted, the Legends campaign will now get underway in Lincolnshire instead at picturesque Cadwell Park.
Due to the first of three visits to Brands now falling as the second event of the Legends season in early June, the rescheduled meeting will take place just a week after the previously announced Knockhill date. As a result, the championship will forego the trip north of the border to Scotland.
So, back-to-back visits to Brands Hatch will take place in June and July – the latter as part of the huge American Speedfest 8 event – before the Legends Cars head to North Yorkshire for the trip to Croft Circuit on 7th/8th August.
Two weeks later the championship makes its annual visit to Donington Park National Circuit in Leicestershire over the weekend 21st/22nd August, before travelling to Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk on 18th/19th September.
Pembrey in South Wales retains its position as the penultimate event of the 2021 campaign, over the weekend 9th/10th October, before the Legends Cars return to Brands Hatch for the third time for the traditional end-of-season event on 6th/7th November.
Even with the Knockhill race meeting now not forming part of the new season, competitors and teams will still enjoy a bumper championship of no fewer than 48 races across eight action-packed weekends at some of the UK’s premier circuits.
“Following the decision between BARC and MSV to reschedule the Truck Racing event from April to June, we’re delighted to confirm Cadwell Park will provide the spectacular backdrop for the opening two rounds of this year’s Legends Cars season”, said championship owner Phil Cooper.
“It’s obviously a shame we’re starting the season a couple of weeks later than planned, but we are pleased to also confirm we’ll be part of the rescheduled Brands Hatch date in June. Unfortunately, this does mean we have had to make the decision not to travel to Knockhill, but the remainder of the calendar stays unchanged so we’re looking forward to 48 incredible races.”
