KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) heads to Okayama International Circuit this weekend, looking to return to the podium in the penultimate round of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series.
KCMG founder Paul Ip, Marchy Lee Ying-Kin and Ho-Pin Tung secured a solid fifth placed finish last time out at Mobility Resort Motegi in September, and will now take on a three-hour race in the #202 Honda NSX GT3 EVO.
Racing in the ST-X category, the top class in the series, KCMG has had a consistent season to date, with the highlight being a podium finish at the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours.
Formerly known as TI Circuit Aida, Okayama twice hosted Formula 1 when it staged the Pacific Grand Prix in 1994 and 1995. More recently, KCMG has raced at the circuit in Super Formula and Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia. Measuring 3.703-kilometres, the track features several twisty, hairpin bends, with elevation changes during the corners providing an extra challenge for the drivers to overcome. The long back straight down to the heavy braking zone of Turn 5 offers the best overtaking opportunity, making the exit of the long Turn 4 extremely important.
MARCHY LEE YING-KIN
“After a long break, we’re looking forward to getting back in Super Taikyu action at Okayama. We’ve been learning and improving the car all season and have a much better understanding of the tyres now. We’re confident we can perform well and will target a podium finish.”
HO-PIN TUNG
“At the last round, we made big steps with our car but the circumstances didn’t allow us to fully capitalise on our pace. We travel to Okayama with full confidence, knowing that a position in the top three is very achievable.”
PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER
“I’m looking forward to jumping back in the Honda NSX GT3 EVO after more than a month away from the track. We’ve been improving throughout the season and our pace at the last few events has been better than our results suggest, so I’m hoping for a strong weekend at a fantastic track and a podium finish at the end of it!”
